Built to last, Jetty East was one of the first condos constructed on Holiday Isle in 1974 and completed in 1975. Its fortress construction of miles of pilings and cement has earned it the nickname of “The Grand Dame”.

It was named Jetty East due to its close proximity to The Jetty and East Pass. Go in any gallery with pictures of The East Jetty and East Pass down the Coastline and Jetty East shines as a landmark of history.

Today, you can walk to the Jetty and enjoy fishing, snorkeling, and scuba diving. The boats leave the harbor and by way of the East Pass go through The Jetty into The Gulf. It has some of the most picturesque sunsets you will ever view.

According to writings of Ken Black in WiseGeek, a jetty is a device constructed out into the water rising to just above the surface to help control currents and provide protection for a channel at an inlet. It is usually made of large rocks, boulders or cement slabs. They are simply dumped into place. While this will allow some water to get through, unlike a solid seawall, it will also do the intended job of breaking up the current. The jetty will also absorb some of the impact of the waves by having a more porous area.

One of the secondary benefits of a jetty is that it is often used by anglers to get out into the water a little more. Jetty fishing may be some of the most productive near-shore fishing there is. The rocks provide plenty of hiding places for fish species, almost making it like a near-shore coral reef. In many cases, anglers will climb onto the rocks themselves.
